There are four primary reasons that I could determine were reasons to integrate technology into education.

The first is that students are immersed in technology outside of school. Most students are wired either with ipods, e-readers, tablets, and/or on-line video games. Educators should expand on the knowledge that their students have of these technologies in order to allow some of their natural creative talents to be cultivated.

A second reason for technology to be utilized in education is that there are so many new ways to enhance student learning. There have been many skill-building programs, discovery-learning tools, and information in general made available that students can learn anything they desire with just a click or two.

Technology in education is also a mindful way of teaching students 21st century skills that will be necessary to function in the future. Some of these skills include creativity, innovation, communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and problem solving.

Lastly, the "real world" functions almost entirely through the use of technology. One would be hard pressed to find a career or hobby that doesn't in some fashion rely on technological advances.
